The Bihar School of Yoga was founded by Swami Satyananda. The Bihar Yoga Bharati is the Institute of Advanced Studies in Yogic Sciences. It was founded by Swami Niranjanananda in 1994. Both schools have a world-wide reputation and they aim to safeguard the Satyananda Yoga Tradition : yoga techniques which have proved their efficiency with regard to the current needs of humans and society, plus the yogic life style which combines different yoga paths and help to develop yogic and human qualities.
The Bihar School of Yoga
Established in 1963 at Munger (Bihar-India) by Paramahamsa Satyananda, the Bihar School of Yoga is an educational and charitable organization, whose purpose is to transmit the teachings of yoga to aspirants of all nationalities. The school is reputed for its excellent sannyasa training and yogic techniques.
Teachers are trained to conduct classes and seminars and introduce yoga to the army, prisons, schools, medical schools and villages. Conferences, yogic programs and conventions are organized both in India and throughout the world under the framework of I.Y.F.M. (International Yoga Fellowship Movement).
There is also the Yoga Research Foundation with its important specialized library to help yogic studies and research. As well as this school Sivananda Math which is a charitable organization aims to participate in the growth of underprivileged sectors in India, specially the rural communities.
 
The Bihar Yoga Bharati
The Bihar Yoga Bharati, University of Yoga, was founded in 1994 by Swami Niranjanananda Saraswati. The principles of this institution have their roots in the ancient Indian universities of Nalanda and Vikramshila and is looking to mediate tradition with current and future needs of humanity.
 
With the intention of continuing the work of Paramahamsa Satyananda and to concretize the vision of Swami Shivananda Saraswati of Rishikesh, the institution consists of three faculties : philosophy of Yoga, psychology of Yoga and applied Yoga. The Bihar Yoga Bharati offers students hailing from different backgrounds a comprehensive and thorough education in Yoga, Vedanta, Tantra and other associated disciplines.
The objective is to link academic study with the atmosphere of ashram life. On a subtle level, the students absorb yogic qualities of seva-selfless service, samarpan-devotion, and karuna-compassion. Each year, courses of four months are scheduled for everyone in English and in Hindi.
The Ganga Darshan campus, situated on a hill overlooking the Ganges, offers an exceptional setting and auspicious atmosphere for spiritual development and is considered to be a spiritual oasis for the XXI century.
